Greensboro- The First Friday event of the month attracted art lovers to downtown Greensboro in droves. The International Civil Rights Museum hosted a tribute to women, enlisting the talent of museum employees and local artist. The audience was treated to a free performance that included a skit of "A Raisin in the Sun"by the Greensboro Community Theater.
The night was all about the recognition of females in and making history. Local singer-songwriter, Fur, showed that she is definitely one to watch performing her original song "With You" available on iTunes. Fur has booked gigs all around Greensboro and her soulful sound was no surprise to a few fans in the audience that sung along.
Poet She, an all-female poetry group, also performed some original poetry. Longtime member Kayla just might be the new MC. Lyte. She rocked the crowd while reciting a piece about modern misogyny that left the listeners speechless.
Men got in on the action too, as a group of guy employees recited Maya Angelou famous "A Long Way Home". Others performed reenactments of works from famous women like Marian Anderson, Zora Neele Hurston and recent Oscar winner Lupita Nyong.
The festivities ended with cookies and lemonade after final words from the nights hostess in a positive energy that can only be described as joy and hope.
